Thank you for your assistance in the chat, I apologise for not being honest with you but I wanted to see how trustworthy the boy was. There will be no heist, so to speak, but I will compensate you for your help.
[Loki stirs in his sleep almost constantly, though it's hard to say whether he's dealing with bad dreams or still sorting through his returned memories. He'd also been performing much more magic than usual, and though his body had taken an older form, his actual ability hadn't changed at all. Which meant he had no way of keeping up with himself, very quickly tiring out.
Eventually he turns and opens his eyes ever so slightly, still half asleep. He squints at the older Loki, confused.]
[ bad dreams does seem to be a constant. loki doesn't sleep very often, only when he needs to. he's not sure why he stayed. the child has plenty of decent companions. they all banded together quickly after all. loki would hardly count himself as one.
Dear brother, I hope you are faring better than when we last met.
I am sure you have noticed that we have been joined by more sons of Odin. One of yours, and one of mine. I hope you have taken the opportunity to tell him of your feelings.
You’re a magic user, correct? How much can you sense about people with it? Say, people from the same universe or timeline, is there any magical way to trace that sort of thing?
I can sense magic and perhaps the kind of magic they possess, but if you're asking if I can sense who hails from which timeline, my counterpart can do that.
[Sephiroth has been to Loki's theatre before, but just to familiarize himself with its location. Today he's come in search of Loki, walking in through its doors and looking around.
He doesn't know what happened between Loki and his doppelganger, or he'd have come sooner. But he saw some disconcerting things in that other world, and... Loki may not remember everything, but Loki is the one who understands him, even so.]
[ loki had been keeping to himself. he didn't want to talk to people. he didn't want to check on friends. he just wanted to be alone and remain alone. he had thor again. he didn't need anyone else.
if he said it enough, it'll become belief. and then it'll become truth. that's all he needs.
the wards alert him to a presence and he rises gingerly to greet them.
[ Funnily enough, Angela also bought Loki a dagger! Or, at least, dagger shaped cufflinks, along with the business card of a tailor whom she had provided a service for, with a handwritten note saying that he owes her a favor, which Loki is welcome to cash in any time. ]
[Delivered to Loki's apartment is a box with a note reading: For my significant one.
- Sephiroth
Inside are two items:
First, a box of assorted chocolates from a fancy shop in Central City. They originally came with a card detailing which chocolate is which, but Sephiroth removed it. Enjoy the surprise!
Second, a handwritten manuscript with the note: "A draft of an idea for your theatre, based on a faerie tale from my world. I know you like tragedies, but this one traditionally has a happy ending." The story begins when the King of Galdia prevails upon the hero Aldric to defeat the Dragon King Valvados, who has slain his son and kidnapped his daughter Rosa. Having been ill-used by the King in the past, Aldric speaks to the King's servants before departing in hopes of discovering any lies. The court wizard cryptically advises him that he will need love, rather than his sword, to defeat Valvados.
When he arrives at Valvados' mountain lair, Aldric first discovers the captive Rosa. She explains that she wasn't kidnapped, but left on her own to avenge her brother. Strangely, Valvados has not harmed her, but insists that he is her brother. She does not believe him, but agrees to follow Aldric's lead, and together they go on to confront Valvados.
While Valvados initially antagonizes Aldric, Aldric convinces him to share his tale. Valvados reveals that he is a changeling, taken in by the late Queen as an infant. When the King learned his true nature, he cast him out, and without love, Valvados is cursed to be seen as a monster. Aldric sets his sword aside and kisses Valvados's scaley hand, and he transforms back into the Prince. Rosa is overjoyed at the sight of her brother, and vows that she will convince their father to see reason. The three return home to a victorious fanfare.
The dialogue is stiff and the scene descriptions somewhat clinical, but hopefully the thought is clear enough.]
[ oh. a play. sephiroth wrote him a play. loki traces the words with his finger with a smile. this was more than a gift, it was something with real thought and feeling put into it.
[Delivered to the front desk of the theater for Loki, on the day before the Winter Solstice. Because Asgardians don't need Christian holidays.
Inside is a beautiful silvery cashmere scarf, that may well be just a shade off from Sephiroth's hair, but in a complimentary way. And a pair of cuff links, silver and set with polished green stones that don't quite manage the same color of Sephiroth's eyes but are evocative of them.
The note inside reads very simply 'to help him find what is his in a well dressed crowd'.]
[Normally, Thor sleeps in probably about as long or longer than Loki. This morning, Thor has risen early. He tries to be sneaky, but the sound of clattering in the kitchen is probably not subtle.
Neither is the sound of sizzling nor the smell of food when it hits the pan, but he's trying.]
[Amaterasu's resume comes in a couple of days after the Confluence. There is a very nice cover letter with a tastefully chosen typeface detailing her intent to help restore and maintain the natural beauty of Sunset Falls' parks and explains her history of dealing with various issues both supernatural and otherwise.]
[For her work experience, she lists Protecting all of Nippon: unk. BCE - March 2023 CE. Simple but entirely truthful.]
[On the day of the appointed interview she arrives precisely 10 minutes early wearing a very dapper bowtie.]
Hey Loki. Having my biweekly lunch with Sephiroth outside of the Sunset Falls Library. Something seems to be wrong. He's having a lot of trouble focusing and sometimes doesn't know where he is. I'm a bit worried. Told him I'd tell you about it, because you know this sort of stuff.
[There is a short story in the style of a faerie tale, with a note reading "For my soon-to-be husband":
A star fell from the heavens. As he was shining and beautiful, he was naturally admired by many. For a time, he basked in their affections--but it became apparent that their love was selfish. They wanted his light, and if he did not offer it to them, they took little interest in him. And so he left the company of people to wander alone.
Centuries passed. The star let himself grow dim so that no one could take his light. One day, he happened across what he thought was another wandering star. Neither revealed himself, but they spoke as men and took comfort in each other's company. They began to travel together, and each time when night fell, the stranger seemed to shine a little brighter. At last the star asked him about it. "I am made from stardust," said the stranger. "Crushed up and shaped into a facsimile. All I can do is reflect your light."
The star realized he had begun to shine again in the other's company. It was something given freely, and given back to him. He took the other's hands in his and said they would shine all the brighter together.
Sephiroth's writing style remains a bit stilted, but it shows improvement over last year.
