[ there have been gaps and side-steps. not that loki minds. it's more practical that way. more realistic too. ]

[ Ooh, gyoza. She grabs four plates before they pass by, for both of them. ]

[ how does one eat these . . . loki eyes the sticks by his side. ]

Actually, he hasn't spoken of you much.

I find that hard to believe, considering our history.

[ She picks up her chopsticks and shows him how to use them, giving a click-clack of demonstration. ]

[ ah. he clumsily imitates her but after a few tries, gets the hang of it. ]

And what history would that be, precisely?

[ Munching away, she hums a smile. ]

No need to go into it if he hasn't spilled the beans, is there? I'm more interested in you, [ with a touch to his arm, ] what's your home like? Your family?

[ ah. uncomfortable, then. his tone is light. ]

Well, Asgard was taken by Ragnarok and my family is dead. There isn't much to say beyond that. Positively dreary, actually.

I'm sorry, that's dreadful.

[ A momentary pause with a sympathetic look, just to show she means it even if she doesn't want to make him uncomfortable by dwelling her attention. She picks at her meal. ]

You survived?

Yes and no. I survived Ragnarok. I did not survive what came after.

Thor is the last of us now.

[ She has seen dead Lokis before, the skeleton on the throne of Asgard had been particularly upsetting. It makes her uneasy to think of a Loki unable to somehow come back to life whether through tricks or magic, and she muses on it with him next to her. ]

You must be eager to live now that you're here then.

[ a wry chuckle. that is the normal response, but his own has been decidedly mixed. if he looked inwardly, he probably understand why but . . . loki isn't all that keen. ]

I certainly won't waste it with impunity, but I cannot say I'm overtly eager.

Why not?

[ Taking a selfie of them! It helps her to appear less than fascinated. ]

[ a loose shrug, though he does faintly smile for the selfie. he is familiar after all. ]

What I wanted out of my life was back in my universe. Outside of it, I'm not sure.

Though I imagine ideas and ambition will come to me.

[ What a cutie. ]

You're alive here and now, you could always work out a new way back home. Asgard fell for us too, Stark rebuilt it for a while. Then that fell and we moved back to the ruined original realm.

That is one of my plans.

[ he grabs a sushi roll between his chopsticks. ]

And I will certainly act towards, but I'm not galvanised towards action at the moment.

Very well, I will be your impetus for the day. [ Waving her chopsticks around as she thinks, she swallows and declares, ] It seems to me you are deflated and require a metaphorical kick up the backside. Your dire history is validating of your mood, certainly, but you are a Loki.

[ In the hand that isn't busy snapping utensils at new dishes, she turns her fingers and the Norn Stones are revealed with a shimmer of green, glowing above her palm. ]

You should take one and remember how to be yourself with a little mischief.

[ his eyes narrow at the norn stones, familiar with their power. he's not foolish enough to reach out and take one just yet. ]

That's a kingly gift.

Well, I'm only offering one on loan.

[ She jostles her hand and a stone skips over to him. ]

To amplify your power and allow you some fun. I don't want to know what you get up to with it, better that I don't in fact, but that ought to give you a mildly galvanising reason to get out there and flex your spells.

[ loki finally grabs it politely before it blinks out, gone into one of his magical pocket spaces. for a moment, he falls silent, almost unsure. ]

Why are you helping me? Really?

Oh, mischief. Absolutely.

[ She's genuinely curious to see what happens when he's let lose with an extra power-up rock, she is creating mischief through him doing his own stuff. That, and ... chinning a hand, she shoots him a softer smile. ]

You seem more sad than mad, which is a rare quality in us.

I never wore madness all too well.

[ not like thanos did. oh, loki did his best to emulate him. or whatever creature people expected him to be. there were so many molds to fill. but he's worn them all to dust and dirt. now there is just loki, solidified.

god of mischief. he won't forget it. ]

Mischief, however, is evergreen.

[ With that settled and feeling like she has proven helpful, she cheerily continues eating. ]

Did you ever possess a long-horned helm too? Long ago, I did.

I did it. I wore it when I was younger, but swapped it out for something more pragmatic.
