[ his expression softens and he trails his fingers down steve's cheek. ]

Steve . . .

I know. Don't say it ok? Just let me pretend.

[There were never any guarantees and Steve knew Loki hated to be pinned down in any way. But he'd asked. Steve wouldn't force anything, but sometimes he had to say it.]

. . . All right.

[ loki knows that sometimes, you hold onto your illusions. ]

[He kissed the man again, because he could, and held Loki close.]

I love you handsome man. Never forget that. I pursued you in this hotel because I wanted you in my life. You're my Loki. My favorite god.

[ loki swallows tightly. ]

What of the other one? The one you knew before?

The one from the island?

[He was quiet for a few minutes, thinking as he petted Loki and held the man close.]

I assume he went home. I honestly don't know Loki. I was told by someone who'd come from the island after me and ended up here that the island had . . . been dissolved I suppose. Everyone had left, or been sent home. I have to assume he went back to his reality.

[Steve met Loki's eyes, his own full of love and understanding.]

When I woke up here, I knew I'd probably never find that man again, but I wanted a Loki in my life. Finding you gave me that. And you made me work so hard for it! You didn't trust me at all!

Trust needs to be earned.

[ but it is a relief to hear. loki hates being pitched against other selves. ]

True. And I was happy to put in the effort. You're the only Loki in my life, you know that, right?

[He kissed Loki's forehead again. Steve knew their time in the hotel was limited, but he clung to his connections tenaciously. And Loki liked to hear that.]
