[ he looks up at that in surprise. ]

Swore to Thor? What are you talking about?

[Maybe he wasn't supposed to talk about that.]

We were talking about getting everyone home. Safe. [And alive.] You can never tell, here, if you're gonna stay or leave.

I promised if he was gone, I'd make sure you got home safe.

[ loki frowns a little. he's not surprised but he's not sure what to make of it either. ]

I did not die the same way the others did. What makes you think I can come back?

I'm really stubborn.

[He smiles.]

You're coming back with us. One way or another.

[ loki eyes him briefly, uncertain. ]

We shall see.

[Steve squeezes his shoulder, smiling.]

There is no way I'm missing you meeting Stitch at Disney World. You're coming, pal.

[ disney . . . world??? ]

He's not a real character.

Says you. What about magic, Lok? Can't that do anything?

[ he shakes his head. ]

Illusions may fool reality, but they can't produce anything real.

But at Disney World, Disney magic makes Stitch a big, furry guy you can hug.

[ he narrows his eyes. ]

I get the feeling this Disney magic is not real.

[Steve affects a gasp.]

Sacrilege! You'll understand when I take you there.

[ loki can see this tactic for what it is and shakes his head. ]

You and Thor have better things to do than to save a man who is better off dead.

Well, I guess that might be true. But since I don't know any man who's better off dead, that point is moot.

[ loki scowls. ]

We both know I'm not like any man.

No. You're not. Which makes you even more important.

[ loki scoffs at that, turning away. ]

This conversation is pointless. It's only words.

[Steve groans and grabs Loki's shoulder to stop him.]

Lok. Come on. Why would I be hanging around with you if I thought you were better dead? Why would I swear myself to Thor for you?

I have no idea why you and Thor did such foolish things. Both of you seemed to have come to some strange conclusion that I am needed. I am not and we all know from experience that the universe is better off without me.

I do not need false hope. I do not need heroes to save me. I only want —

[ to belong somewhere, to be wanted instead of being cast aside for heroism and the greater good. loki never died for the greater good, he died for thor. ]

Because we care about you! We don't want to save you, we just want you around!

Loki!

[Steve grips him tight.]

If you weren't around, Thor would be dead. What happens the next time he's in danger, huh? What is he gonna do without you?

[ loki scowls, trying to bat steve's hands away. ]

Isn't that what his friends are for? The people he's always chosen over me, the world he has always chosen over me?

In his defense, you did try to stab him. A lot.

[Maybe the wrong time for a joke to try and defuse tension. He made an attempt.]

Thor having other people doesn't mean he chooses them over you. Christ, do you know how many awful decisions I've had to make? It's not about the people, a lot of the times. It's what needs to be done.

I am sure, now, he will choose you above all else. He needs you, Lok.

[ loki is stubborn, his shoulders hunched. ]

No, he wouldn't. That is why you are all heroes. You choose what is best, but I have never cared for that.

[ he shakes his head. ]

I can't do that.

Sure you do. You just...choose a different thing that's 'best' than we do.

You choose Thor. And Asgard, actually. So it's possible.

It still leaves me with a very limited amount of concerns.

Either way, it is a moot point considering none of you know of any way to "save" me as it were. Was I supposed to head back, hoping for the best?
